II. OUR AUGUSTINIAN MISSION FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE

Our mission as Augustinians is specific: to be promoters of justice and peace, in creative fidelity to our charism (our particular spirit) and to the very sources of Augustinian thought.
The signs of the times question us, the voices of God in history cry out to our conscience.
The Augustinians carry out our mission as promoters of justice and peace from the perspective of community, in tune with the basic needs of the people and empowering them to be the protagonists of their own destiny.
Our prophetic mission is carried out in coordination with the laity in a fluid communication with movements and institutions that struggle for the promotion and defence of human rights.
III. OUR LONG-RANGE GOALS FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE
a. To encourage awareness and to train Augustinians in the mission of Justice and Peace, understood as a demand of the Gospel.
b. To rediscover Augustinian values and spirituality (spiritual tradition - in Italian, spiritualità) in light of the signs of the times as they refer to Justice and Peace.
c. To include the study of justice and peace in initial and ongoing formation, as instructed in the "Ratio Institutionis".
d. To be more in touch with the world of the pastoral care of workers.
e. Critical integration with NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) and other ecclesial and non-ecclesial entities that work for justice and peace.
f. To review works and activities in order to discern if these respond to the promotion of justice and peace.
g. To be within the Church a centre for reflection on and in defence of human rights.
h. To elaborate a manual with common criteria for the work of justice and peace in an Augustinian fashion.
i. To form Augustinian "lobbying" groups as a way of raising awareness about situations that threaten peace and justice in the various circumscriptions. ID2416
