THE AUGUSTINIAN PROMOTION OF JUSTICE AND PEACE
I. INTENT ON AN IDEAL
The Augustinian Community strives to build up love, justice and peace in the heart of history, society and the Church.
The followers of Jesus, in accord with his spirit, had the courage to overcome the conflicts that presented themselves in a society that was characterised by being selfish and harsh.
The early Christian community of Jerusalem is our point of reference. It was able to show that it was possible to share life and goods, joys and hopes with an attitude of solidarity and love.
"To have one heart and one mind entirely centred on God", "to hold all things in common", and "to share with those most in need", are our proposal and our way of life for today, the same that Augustine took for his own, inspired by that small, early community.
From the perspective of this liberating and communal way of living, we strive for the continual conversion of hearts, and the change of structures within society, in each circumscription where we work, in order that our efforts to promote justice and peace may be constantly renewed and strengthened.
In a world marked by situations of the lack of justice, social inequality, violence, the violation of human rights, and the struggle for power, we want to share our charism (our particular spirit), as a proposal that gives life; this is meant to be our positive contribution to the world of today.
This option for the human person demands that we be sensitive, creative, and attentive to the voice of God in history. ID0794
