Drogheda: 16th May 2008
In Drogheda, Ireland three of the six OWWWA groups were in the charge of Kate Everitt, an instigator of One World Week With Augustine. Comprising adolescent females, these three groups met together for the OWWWA celebration on 15th May.
With their friends and family members present to make a gathering of seventy persons, the local Church of Ireland hall was hired for the occasion.
Kate reports, “We began by ceremonially lighting three candles. The first was for all the participants of the one world week and one of the young people out named each country.
The second was for all our participants on the night, and the third was for deceased teenagers who were in our groups one of the deaths is still being worked though.
We had a vase of yellow roses, one rose for each of the eleven countries involved in OWWWA.
Fr Iggy gave a talk on Augustine and friendship and he pitched it really well for the teenagers. We had great discussions in our small groups. The teenagers felt that they could really connect to “this guy Augustine” they said they would have liked to have been around in his time and that he was someone who they could “hang out with” a “really cool guy”. This was their first introduction to Augustine and they really enjoyed it.
We had a display of Irish dancing, and a number of vocalists from among the group members. All in all it was a wonderful celebration, even for the so called adolescent “non-believers”, who admitted that yes they do believe.
We had so much food left over that we shared it between the women’s refuge and the homeless aid centre.”
