One World Week With Augustine - Update 02

Spain has now increased to twelve the number of nations involved in One World Week With Augustine. Some Augustinian laity in the Group of St Alypius are taking part. The group exists at El Escorial, a huge royal palace and monastery in which Augustinians have served for over 120 years. St Augustine : One World Week With Augustine - Update 02

The St Alypius Group usually has about fifteen members. It meets each Wednesday in the El Escorial to read some part of the writings of St Augustine, and a commentary upon them. Their advisor is Fr Antonio Iturbe O.S.A., the Prior of the Augustinian religious community in the Escorial.

At present the group is studying Book XII of the City of God by Augustine.

Part of this procedure is to prepare a reading guide on the sections of Augustine that they study, and this material is then published in the magazine of the Matritense (Augustinian) Province, for the benefit of other groups. In this way, material has been presented so far on other writings of St Augustine, including Confessions, and his early writings - Soliloquies, De Ordine (“On order”), and De Beata Vita (“On the happy life.’)

The Augustinian Sisters at Liverpool, England are forming a group for One World Week with Augustine. More details are to follow..

From the Netherlands: Our group (Boskapel, Nijmegen) is planning activities on three days: 12th - 14th May. Possibly the activity on 12^th May will be together with the other Nijmegen group, Lindenholt.
