The Nairobi group for One World Week With Augustine comprises many of the thirty Augustinian postulants, who are undertaking three years of preparation for religious life, and many also for priesthood.
Fr Francis Aherne O.S.A. reports, “While we have not yet planned the week (you never plan things too early around here) I presume that we will finish with a liturgy and then a 'Nyama Choma.' This, for anyone who is not familiar with KiSwahili (the Swahili language) entails barbecuing a goat. This is the customary way of celebrating in East Africa.”

The thirty Kenyan Augustinian postulants have come up with the following statement:
"As iron sharpens iron, so does man sharpen his fellow man. Friendship, according to Augustine, is a delightful bond of souls in unity. Augustine spent so many years searching for truth (God through Christ) and in doing so also sought for friendships that were true.
This consists of two or more people who are alike in virtue and goodness and constantly seeking truth and goodness for their friends and themselves. This is the kind of friendship that Augustine sought for and obtained with Nebridius and Alipius. In this, the three came to live together so that they might search for God together.
We are told: "Augustine came to Milan in order that we might be together in our enthusiastic search for truth and wisdom." So, for Augustine, true friendship seeks to build the others up and aid them in their journey to goodness. It seeks the final and highest good (God) and helps to bring others to encounter Him. Augustine spent so many years in human friendships looking for that truth.
Through these experiences he obtained the greatest friendship of all, which is friendship with God. It is a friendship that enabled Augustine to lead others to God and shape and sharpen them through his encouragement and example. And still does."
