Reformation: Introduction

Not only in the history of the Christian Church generally, but also in the history of the Order of Saint Augustine in particular, the Protestant Reformation, which began in 1517, had great effects on the welfare of the Order, and even influenced its very identity.

Reformation 01 & 02: What it was, and what it was not.

Reformation 03 to 08: In the years before 1517, the leaders of the Order of Saint Augustine were intent on reform, especially when Giles of Viterbo O.S.A. was Prior General from 1507 to 1518.

Reformation 09 & 10: Augustinians for and against Martin Luther. 

Reformation 11 to 13: The Effect of Martin Luther on the Order of Saint Augustine. Many Augustinians preached and taught against him. Others sympathised with his thoughts. The consequences varied from province to province.

 

Reformation 14 to 18: The Protestant Reformation in the Augustinian Province of England and Scotland. Three English Augustinians aided the cessation of the Order in England and Scotland by joining the forces of the king against the Roman Church.
