Kenya: Introduction

In 1990 the Irish Augustinian mission in Nigeria (now the Province of Nigeria) accepted a parish at Ishiara in Kenya.

In 1995 they established another Augustinian community in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, to prepare African candidates for the Augustinian Order.

This was by no means the first Augustinian contact with Kenya. Between 1572 and 1834 the Portuguese Augustinians followed the colonial routes of their nation and preached the Christian message over a vast expanse of the globe.

In 1597 members of the Order of Saint Augustine were sent to Mombasa (Kenya) by their superior Alexis Meneses O.S.A., Archbishop of Goa, India.
